Summary:
Researchers from Charles University, Czech Republic, studied the levels of folate, B6 and B12 in the blood of several hundred residents from Pilsen, an area with one of the highest rates of beer consumption in the world. Participants who drank moderate amount of beer had higher circulating levels of folate and B6, about twice as much as those who drank only red wine or gin. Beer also imparts the benefits of alcohol on the heart, which we have already discussed. Excess beer consumption is also directly linked to drunk driving, alcoholic liver disease (cirrhosis) and death.
