What is body mass index (BMI)?

It is a calculation of relative weight for a given height.

What is the Definition of "Overweight"?

Being “overweight” is defined as a body mass index (BMI) of 25 to 29.9.

What is the Definition of Obesity?

"Obesity” is defined by a BMI above 30.

What is the Significance of BMI?

According to the New England Journal of Medicine, your overall cardiovascular health can be categorized by your BMI. A body mass index between 18.5 and 22.9 is considered healthy. “Mildly increased health risks” are associated with a BMI between 23.0 and 24.9. Health risks are “definitely increased” in obesity and considered “dangerous” for BMI exceeding 30 !

What Is The Evidence for BMI and Coronary Heart Disease?

The 22 year follow-up evidence from the Framingham Study shows the strongest 'independent' association between body mass index and coronary heart disease.
