ARBs (Angiotensin II Receptor Blockers)

by Pierre S Aoukar, MD and Hratch L Karamanoukian, MD
Posted: February 16

ARBs produce the same effects as ACE Inhibitors, but block Angiotensin II at its site of activity rather than preventing its synthesis. ARBs are the newest line of drugs to fight hypertension and heart failure. They are more potent than ACE Inhibitors and more efficacious in the African-American population. They are also a lot more expensive.
